Central frame looking toward the theatre
Central frame looking toward the theatre

A theatre and exhibition space that imagines a building as a self within a society of buildings.

Between the seaplane hangar and Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium in Como, Teatro dell’Ego explores the metaphor of a building as a person. It has boundaries, an interior life, and relationships with the city around it. Rather than standing apart, it seeks an interdependent place within its inherited setting.

The central frame opens toward the theatre, where visitors enter from the stage. The entering person becomes both actor and audience, placing the self at the centre of attention. Around the empty centre, the building’s six frames of mind give spatial form to different lines of intelligence; rising levels represent their growth and the capacity to take other perspectives.

Music offers a compositional framework. The narrowing and expanding exhibition sequence draws from Verdi’s Requiem, Dies Irae; harmonic intervals from La Traviata inform a proposal for the stadium façade. These are architectural interpretations of music and consciousness, developed as part of the thesis.

Form follows music.
As you move through the space, corridor becomes feminine, you become the masculine.
Invisible light is hidden in d-archness that ego does not seek.
